Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has issued a stern warning to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) against licensing unqualified and non-compliant medical facilities. He emphasized that compliance or registration officers engaging in malpractice would face legal consequences, stating firmly: โ€œIt will not be business as usual.โ€

โ€œAs part of my familiarization tour of Ministry of Health agencies, I paid a maiden visit to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC),โ€ said CS Duale. โ€œI issued a firm warning against the licensing of unqualified and non-compliant medical facilities, making it clear that any malpractice by compliance officers will attract legal consequences.โ€

During his visit to KMPDC offices in Nairobi, the CS urged the Council to uphold integrity, transparency, and public service as mandated under Section 33(2) of the 2023 Social Health Insurance Act.

He underscored the critical role KMPDC plays in ensuring all Kenyans have access to safe, quality healthcare delivered by qualified professionals.

โ€œI also emphasized the Ministry’s full support through legislative reforms, resource mobilization, and coordination with counties and professional bodies to unlock Universal Health Coverage (UHC),โ€ Duale added.

Additionally, the Cabinet Secretary briefed the Council on the Ministryโ€™s Digital Health Agency, which is tasked with identifying unqualified practitioners and cracking down on substandard medical care providers.

Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga called for a clear competency framework and robust professional evaluation to improve service delivery and maintain high standards in the sector.

Also present were Public Health Principal Secretary Ms. Mary Muthoni, Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, KMPDC CEO Dr. David Kariuki, Chair Prof. Stanley Khainga, and other senior health officials.
