GARISSA-Security agencies have thwarted a suspected terror mission after a multi-agency security team arrested a terror suspect and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the busy Garissa–Dadaab Road.

The suspect, identified as Hussein Issa Baraki, was arrested following a dramatic chase at the Haji Aden area in Garissa County.

According to security officials, officers on routine patrol noticed the suspect behaving suspiciously while standing by the roadside. Upon spotting the approaching security team, the suspect reportedly fled into a nearby bush in an attempt to evade arrest.

A pursuit ensued through dense thickets before the officers successfully cornered and apprehended him.

After the arrest, officers escorted the suspect back to the location where he had initially been spotted. A subsequent search led to the recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), raising fears that a terror attack may have been in the planning stages.

Security personnel also recovered military-style jungle attire, including a jungle jacket and matching trousers, as well as two mobile phones believed to be relevant to the ongoing investigations.

The suspect was later taken to Garissa Police Station for processing as detectives continue with investigations ahead of his arraignment in court. The recovered items have been secured as exhibits.

Authorities said the incident underscores the continued vigilance and commitment of security agencies in combating terrorism and violent extremism in the region.

Members of the public have been urged to remain alert and continue sharing timely information with security agencies to help prevent criminal and terror-related activities.
