Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale today hosted a high-level delegation from the German Bundestag, led by Hon. Mechthild Heil, for discussions aimed at deepening global health solidarity through the Global Fund, a key partner in advancing Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.

The German delegation is in Kenya in support of the Global Fund’s 8th Replenishment, an international framework driving the global fight against HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, while accelerating progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 3—ending the three diseases as public health threats.

During the meeting, CS Duale briefed the delegation on Kenya’s ongoing health sector reforms under the Taifa Care Model, which seeks to expand access to quality healthcare through the newly established Social Health Authority (SHA).

He highlighted the government’s investment in digital health systems designed to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability across service delivery, including digital platforms that enforce professional standards.

The Cabinet Secretary emphasized the need for integration, coordination, and value for money, noting the alignment of Global Fund priorities with those of Gavi, PEPFAR, and other government-led investments.

These partnerships are strengthening Kenya’s laboratory networks, disease surveillance systems, and digital innovations from the community to the referral level.

Discussions also focused on strategic collaboration through the Kenya Biovax Institute, particularly in the areas of equipment sharing, technology transfer, and capacity development. German support continues to play a vital role in accelerating local vaccine production and biomedical research, which are key drivers of Kenya’s health security and sustainability.

Kenya has continued to meet its 20% co-financing commitment under Global Fund guidelines, pledging USD 593.3 million under the Fifth Administration to sustain HIV, TB, Malaria, and community health programmes.

Reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to achieving both national and global health goals, Hon. Duale commended the Global Fund and the German government for their steadfast support, noting Kenya’s significant progress in reducing new HIV infections and expanding access to life-saving antiretroviral therapy.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, KEMSA CEO, Dr. Waqo Ejersa, and Bundestag members Hon. Philipp Hoffmann(Finance, Economic Cooperation and Development Committees) and Hon. Dr. Carsten Brodesser (Chair, Finance Committee), among other dignitaries.
