Mogadishu – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, returned to Mogadishu this morning after concluding a high-level official tour to the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia, aimed at deepening bilateral relations and advancing Somalia’s foreign policy and economic interests.
During his visit to China, Prime Minister Hamza participated in the 7th China-Arab States Expo, held in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
The Expo serves as a strategic platform for dialogue and cooperation between China and Arab nations,
particularly in the areas of trade, investment, infrastructure, and technology.
In his keynote address at the opening session of the Expo, Prime Minister Hamza outlined Somalia’s strategic geographic position, abundant natural resources, and the government’s ongoing reform agenda designed to attract and safeguard foreign investment.
He underscored Somalia’s readiness to partner with Chinese investors in key sectors such as energy, fisheries, infrastructure development, agriculture, and telecommunications.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister held bilateral meetings with several high-ranking Chinese government officials and executives from major Chinese corporations.
These engagements focused on strengthening diplomatic ties and identifying concrete avenues for economic cooperation and technical support.
According a statement from the Premier’s office, the Somali delegation actively promoted Somalia as an emerging investment destination and expressed interest in leveraging China’s expertise in infrastructure and industrial development to support Somalia’s reconstruction and modernization efforts.
Following his engagements in China, the Prime Minister proceeded to the Republic of Serbia for an official visit, where he was received with full state honors in the capital city of Belgrade.
In a landmark diplomatic meeting at the Presidential Palace, Prime Minister Hamza met with his Serbian counterpart, Dušan Macut.
The two leaders engaged in comprehensive discussions on expanding bilateral relations, with a particular focus on cooperation in agriculture, public health, education, and cultural diplomacy.
Both sides expressed mutual commitment to strengthening diplomatic engagement and fostering long-term partnerships rooted in mutual respect, shared development goals, and South-South cooperation.
The discussions also explored possibilities for technical assistance, scholarship programs, and knowledge exchange between the two nations.
Prime Minister Hamza’s tour to China and Serbia is a continuation of Somalia’s proactive diplomatic outreach strategy, aimed at diversifying its international partnerships and securing sustainable economic opportunities. The visits also reaffirm Somalia’s commitment to multilateralism and constructive global engagement.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by a senior delegation of cabinet ministers and government officials, who played a pivotal role in advancing Somalia’s strategic interests during the visit. Upon returning to Mogadishu, Prime Minister Hamza reiterated his administration’s dedication to accelerating Somalia’s development agenda, enhancing international cooperation, and securing a prosperous future for all Somalis.
