Shanta Abaq, Garissa County — Garissa Woman Representative Amina Udgoon Siyad on Saturday led a humanitarian mission to Shanta Abaq in Lagdera
Constituency, delivering food and essential supplies to hundreds of residents affected by prolonged drought.
The lawmaker was accompanied by area MP Abdikadir Mohamed, Lagdera MCA Fakrudeen Hajji Sadik, elders, and local opinion leaders during the visit, which is part of her ongoing grassroots outreach across Garissa County.
Ms Siyad said the initiative is aimed at engaging residents directly, understanding their challenges, and coordinating relief efforts in partnership with government agencies and local leaders.
“We are here not just to deliver supplies, but to listen to the people and work with them to find sustainable solutions,” she said.
During the visit, two semi-trailers of food and non-food items were distributed to vulnerable households in Goryale Ward.
The supplies were mobilised by the Woman Rep’s office in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Service and Special Programmes.

“These supplies offer urgent relief to those in need and symbolise our commitment to support communities in both good times and times of crisis,” she said in a statement.
Local leaders welcomed the initiative, calling it timely and responsive to the needs of residents grappling with food insecurity.
The tour drew leaders from within Lagdera and neighbouring constituenciea. MP Abdikadir Mohamed, who joined the relief caravan despite a packed parliamentary schedule, was praised by Ms Siyad for his “dedication and reliability.”
“His presence here is a sign of strong partnership and shared commitment to the people of Lagdera,” she said.
The visit saw participation from a delegation of supporters from Dadaab, many of whom have backed Ms Siyad since her 2022 election campaign.
Community elders and prominent figures, including Mohamed Awer and Ahmed Issa, played a key role in mobilising local residents.
Ms Siyad acknowledged their contribution, describing them as “pillars of community empowerment.”
She also recognised staff from her constituency office for their role in organising and executing the outreach programme, singling out those serving Lagdera for their “professionalism and commitment.”
The Shanta Abaq visit follows similar engagements in other parts of the county.
Recently, Ms Siyad recently visited traders affected by a fire at Suuq Muqdi, where she provided relief support and financial aid to help businesses recover.
She reaffirmed her pledge to provide inclusive leadership and responsive service delivery throughout her term.
“We will continue walking with our people, listening to their needs, and working hand-in-hand to bring development to every corner of Garissa,” she said.
In her closing remarks to residents of Shanta Abaq, Gurufa, and Baraki, Ms Siyad expressed gratitude for their warm reception.
“I deeply thank you for the warm welcome you gave us. I promise to always stand with you—in good times and in difficult times.”
