Addis Ababa- Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he held talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing regional cooperation.
The discussions focused on promoting peace, good neighborliness, and joint efforts to combat terrorism in the Horn of Africa, according to Villa Somalia, the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to mutual respect and collaboration grounded in shared interests, sovereignty , and the unity of both nations.
President Mohamud underscored the importance of regional stability and the need for coordinated efforts in countering extremist threats across the region.
The meeting in Addis Ababa comes just six days after President Mohamud’s visit to Kismayo on October 6, where he met Jubbaland leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam “Madobe.”
The Kismayo talks, reportedly facilitated by officials from Kenya and Ethiopia, were aimed at resolving political differences between the Federal Government and the Jubbaland administration. However, the discussions are said to have ended without tangible progress.

Independent diplomatic sources suggest that Mogadishu is now considering plans to establish a parallel Jubbaland administration based in the Gedo region, a move that has reportedly drawn opposition from both Kenya and Ethiopia, who favor a negotiated settlement within the existing federal framework.
The latest engagement between President Hassan Sheikh and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is therefore seen as part of ongoing regional efforts to defuse tensions and ensure political stability within Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa.
