LAFEY, MANDERA- Afia FC have been crowned champions of the Lafey chapter of the PS Ismail Phase Two Tournament after defeating Ajax FC 2–0 in the final played at Lafey Grounds.
Captain Hassan Derow opened the scoring with a header before tournament top scorer Gundi Ali sealed the victory with a late goal.
For their triumph, Afia FC walked away with KSh. 200,000, while runners-up Ajax FC received KSh. 100,000 and second runners-up Hamcity FC pocketed KSh. 75,000.
The Lafey final was graced by area leaders, including Hon. Mohamed Abdikheir, MP for Lafey Constituency, Hon. Bashir Abdullah, MP for Mandera North, Hon. Abdirahman Hussein, MP for Mandera East, and Hon. Adan Hussein Rahoy, MCA Lafey, alongside other dignitaries.
The PS Ismail Tournament, which kicked off on 18th August 2025, is anchored on three pillars of nurturing grassroots football talent, promoting peace and cohesion, and empowering youth through sports.

This year, it attracted a record 112 teams across Lafey, Mandera North and Mandera East, making it one of the biggest grassroots football events in Mandera County. the tournament reflects increased investment in youth empowerment and sports development.
It also provides a platform for talent identification, with the Kenya Academy of Sports scouting players for future growth opportunities. Action now moves to Rhamu in Mandera North on September 13 and Mandera Town in Mandera East on September 14, 2025.
The tournament continues to strengthen community cohesion in Mandera while aligning with the national agenda of talent development and monetization.
