African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) Kenya Defence Forces ( KDF) contingent troops on Saturday troops played a friendly football match against ‘Hero Team’, a local team from Dhobley town.

According to a statement from ATMIS, The game is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen relations between KDF troops and the local community.

KDF troops who are majorly stationed in Jubbaland State have in recent months been involved in social community activities aimed at helping the Somali people affected by natural calamities and bridging the gap between the two sides in a bid to defeat Al-Shabab militant group and foster collaboration.

On the other hand, 13 ATMIS Burundi National Defence Forces (BNDF) troops completed a 5-day PKM machine gun training on ground and helicopter operations, facilitated by Bancroft.

At the closing ceremony, Sector 5 Contingent Commander, Col. Oscar Hatungimana, awarded certificates and urged soldiers to apply their newly acquired skills in combating terror.

ATMIS said that the specialised combat training enhances BNDF peacekeepers’ capabilities, bolstering ATMIS’ efforts to maintain security and protect civilians in Somalia.
