KAMPALA – A bomb blast has occured in Uganda’s capital, Kampala on Saturday evening killing two persons on the spot.
Uganda police chief commander Asan Kasingye told journalists in the Capital that two people were killed in the explosion.
Uganda president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today on a statement posted on his official Twitter handle termed the act as one that carries the hallmark of terrorism.
“It seems to be a terrorist act,” Museveni Tweeted on Sunday.
“The information I have is that 3 people came and left a package in kaveera [plastic bag] which later on exploded,” Museveni said.

Local journalists reported that the bomb blast took place at Digida Pork Joint, a restaurant. Videos that surfaced on social media showed apprehensive and tensed revellers scampering for safety.
The United Kingdom has warned that terrorists could carry out an attack in Uganda, but police say there is no need to elevate the threat levels.
The United Kingdom (UK) government warned that terrorists attack could take place in Kampala, calling on their nationals to be extremely vigilant about their security “especially in crowded and public places like hotels, transport hubs, restaurants and bars, and during major gatherings like sporting or religious events”.
“Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners. UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe abroad and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack,” the statement read.
There was no group that claimed responsibility for the explosion.
In 2010 Al- Shabaab militants killed dozens of people in Kampala.The group in a statement said that it had attacked Uganda as a punishment for its deployment of troops in Somalia.
Uganda is a contributing country to AMISOM in Somalia and is seeking to restore peace in the Horn of Africa State that is reeling from decades of civil war.
