A meeting on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) was held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. The event was organized by the Ifrah Foundation and brought together government officials from Kenya, including leaders from the Anti-FGM Board.

During the meeting, girls and women who had undergone FGM shared their experiences, explaining how the practice has affected their health and lives for many years.

Ifrah Ahmed, head of the Ifrah Foundation, told journalists that FGM remains widespread in Somalia, with about 97% of women and girls affected in some areas. She called for increased efforts to end the practice.

The First Ladies of Wajir and Marsabit counties also addressed the meeting, emphasizing the need to step up efforts to end FGM, which remains deeply rooted in the culture of some Somali communities and pastoralist societies.

They further called on the international community to support and invest in organizations working to end FGM, including the Ifrah Foundation.

The Ifrah Foundation has been working to prevent FGM and raise awareness about its effects in Somalia, Kenya, and Ireland since 2017.

The event brought together about 3,000 people, the majority of whom were women.
