Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Thursday held a consultative meeting with the Council of Governors (CoG), led by Health Committee Chairperson and Tharaka Nithi Governor H.E. Muthomi Njuki, to deliberate on key reforms aimed at advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The meeting addressed long-standing challenges, including the transition of UHC workers to permanent and pensionable terms. This will be guided by a joint verification and validation exercise designed to strengthen accountability and safeguard payroll integrity.

It was also agreed that a joint technical working group comprising representatives from the CoG and the Social Health Authority (SHA) be established to develop sustainable solutions to emerging health system challenges.

The forum further reviewed progress on SHA registration of teenage mothers and preparations for the rollout of the national ambulance service. The service, set to be integrated into the digital health system, will enhance specialised referral services across the country.

CS Duale underscored that through the Taifa Care Model, the government continues to prioritise preventive care, efficiency, and expanded access to quality healthcare for all Kenyans.

He was joined in the meeting by Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga, SHA CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, DHA CEO Eng. Anthony Lenayara, SHA Chairperson Dr. Abdi Mohamed, Kakamega Governor H.E. Fernandes Baraza, and CoG CEO Ms. Mary Mwiti, among other Ministry officials.
