GARISSA– On the sacred Day of Arafah, Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale and his family officially opened Masjid Al-Abrar, a modern mosque built in the heart of Garissa Ndogo, Garissa County.

The mosque was constructed in loving memory of Duale’s late parents and stands as a lasting symbol of faith, community, and service.

The mosque is located on the very land where the Duale family was raised. Masjid Al-Abrar features a spacious prayer hall for men, a separate women’s section on the upper floor, a Ghusul area for Islamic burial rites, and a fully equipped ambulance that also functions as a hearse.

These facilities are offered free of charge to the local community as part of a Sadaqa Jariah—an ongoing charitable contribution in Islamic tradition.

In a statement, CS Duale described the mosque as “a heartfelt gift to the people of Garissa and a hub for both spiritual growth and social support.”

The opening ceremony drew hundreds of attendees, including religious leaders, political figures, and residents.

Among the dignitaries present were former Cabinet Minister Mohammed Maalim, Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) Board Chairman Abdi Bare Duale, several members of the Garissa County Assembly, and esteemed Islamic scholar Sheikh Umal Mohammed from Eastleigh, Nairobi, who led the inaugural Dhuhur (noon) prayer.

The initiative has been widely praised as a model for integrating religious devotion with practical community service. Local residents expressed gratitude for the facilities, especially the inclusion of funeral services that ease the burden on bereaved families.

Masjid Al-Abrar now stands not only as a place of worship but as a beacon of hope and generosity in Garissa County.
