The Government of Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national and regional public health amid ongoing concerns over Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreaks in parts of the region.
In a press release issued on May 27, 2026, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale stated that Kenya remains a trusted and responsible partner in global health security through strengthened surveillance systems, emergency preparedness, and international collaboration.
The statement from the Office of the Cabinet Secretary for Health noted that Kenya continues to engage with the United States government and other international partners to enhance preparedness and response mechanisms against emerging public health threats, including Ebola.
According to the Ministry, Kenya has over the years invested heavily in health systems strengthening, laboratory capacity, disease surveillance, workforce development, and emergency response coordination. The government highlighted the critical role Kenyan health professionals played during the West Africa Ebola outbreak between 2014 and 2016.
The Ministry further revealed that Kenya has activated its National Incident Management System and intensified surveillance at all Points of Entry across the country. Designated laboratories have also been equipped for testing and response coordination at both national and county levels.
“To date, more than 55,000 travelers have been screened through various ports of entry and a total of ten suspected cases tested, all of which have turned out negative,” the statement said.
The government emphasized that all international health cooperation arrangements will strictly adhere to Kenya’s national laws, public health regulations, and biosafety standards, while prioritizing the safety and welfare of Kenyans, frontline health workers, and communities.
Kenya also reiterated the importance of partnerships with the United States and other global institutions, saying such collaborations have significantly contributed to investments in surveillance systems, workforce training, emergency preparedness, and health infrastructure across the region.
The Ministry assured the public that Kenya remains fully prepared and capable of responding to emerging public health threats and pledged to continue providing regular updates.
