Diif, Wajir – Wajir County Woman Representative Fatuma Abdi Jehow has called on Diif residents in Wajir South to register for the government’s Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme.
Speaking at an Education Day activity that took place in Diif town on Wednesday, Jehow described the SHA initiative as a transformative program that will provide life-saving medical treatment both locally and abroad.
She pointed out that most patients heavily rely on leaders financially to travel abroad, especially India, for the treatment of critical illnesses like kidney failure and cancer.
She emphasized that once the Social Health Authority (SHA) is in place, the economic burden of the expenditure would heavily be reduced from families.
“The Social Health Authority will play an important role in easing the financial burden on families. I strongly urge the Diif community to register,” Jehow stated.

The county MP also pledged to return to Diif town to launch and initiate empowerment initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of the local population underlining her personal connection to the town.
She expressed a deep personal connection to the town, noting that her late father, Abdi Jehow, was Diif’s founding father and its first chief.
“I am Abdi Jehow’s daughter. I’m a daughter of Diif, and every time I speak with Mohamed Adow (Wajir South MP) and Ummi Bashir (Principal Secretary for Culture and Heritage), I remind them that I am more of Diif native than they are.” she stated
The woman representative further addressed the long-standing challenges surrounding the issuance of national identification cards (IDs) in northern Kenya.
She encouraged residents, especially the youth, to seize this opportunity to assert their identity as Kenyan citizens by obtaining national IDs.
“Previously, one would be questioned about, ‘Where are you from?’ or ‘What is your father’s name?’ This is our time to confirm that we are who we are. As citizens of Kenya, we are entitled to acquire IDs.” Jehow said.
The Woman representative slammed the critics of ID registration in the area, emphasizing that residents of northern Kenya are also Kenyans entitled to obtain the document.
Additionally, In her address, Jehow reaffiirmed her allegiance and support to President William Ruto, assuring that the Diif people and the entire region would record more political participation during the upcoming elections and vote for him for a second term.
“The last time we voted for you minimally. But this time, we will vote in large numbers for you,” she said.
The event was graced by Felix Koskei, Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff to President William Ruto, along with high- ranking government officials from both levels of government. Among them were Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, his deputy Ahmed Muhumed, Wajir South MP Mohamed Adow, and Principal Secretaries, among other senior officials.
