Wajir County Women Representative, Fatuma Jehow, has officially launched a Ksh 10 million Women Empowerment Fund aimed at uplifting 700 women across the six constituencies of Wajir – Wajir East, Wajir North, Wajir South, Wajir West, Eldas, and Tarbaj.

The fund targets women-led groups and cooperatives identified through a transparent and rigorous vetting process.

It is designed to support small-scale entrepreneurs such as mama mbogas (fresh produce vendors), milk sellers, and informal traders who play a vital role in driving Wajir’s local economy.

“This initiative goes beyond financial assistance. It is an investment in dignity, independence, and long-term prosperity,” said Jehow.

She added that women are the backbone of the communities and empowering them will ensure that the entire community is empowered.

“Our women are the backbone of our communities, and by empowering them, we are empowering entire families and communities.” she added.

Jehow expressed her deep appreciation to President William Ruto for his unwavering commitment to grassroots empowerment and inclusive development.

She highlighted that such programs are a direct reflection of the President’s vision to uplift marginalized communities and create equal opportunities for all Kenyans.

“President Ruto’s strong leadership and continued support are transforming lives. His focus on empowering women is paving the way for a more equitable and hopeful future,” she added.

To further encourage responsible use of the funds, Hon. Jehow announced that the top three best-performing groups will be publicly recognized and provided with additional support, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

She urged all beneficiaries to manage the funds wisely and strategically, emphasizing that her office will continue to monitor progress and provide ongoing support to ensure the initiative achieves sustainable impact.

“I look forward to hearing the success stories that will emerge from this program in the months ahead, In Sha Allah,” she said.

The Women Empowerment Fund is expected to stimulate economic growth, strengthen community resilience, and empower women to lead positive change across Wajir County.
