Mogadishu- Somalia Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, has today officially presided over the graduation ceremony of officers, deputy officers, and units from the Somali National Army’s elite Gorgor division.

The officers completed rigorous and specialized training in the Republic of Türkiye and at the prestigious TurkSom Military Training Academy in the Nation’s capital Mogadishu.

In his address at the ceremony, Prime Minister Hamza underscored the vital role of the Somali National Army in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and advancing Somalia’s state-building agenda.

“The Somali National Army is the backbone of a strong and self-reliant state,” he declared. “You must carry this responsibility with pride and readiness to liberate our land from enemies and restore the dignity, unity, and honor of the Somali people.” he said.

The Prime Minister reiterated the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to establish a well-trained, professional national army equipped with the skills and leadership necessary to fulfill Somalia’s vision of a secure and stable state.

He emphasized that the defense and liberation of the country remain top priorities, noting that Somali soldiers deserve honor and special recognition for their sacrifices.

He expressed confidence that the forces will play a pivotal role in national security operations and in combating Al-Shabaab and other extremist elements threatening peace and unity in Somalia.

Prime Minister Barre concluded by expressing profound gratitude to the government and people of Türkiye for their unwavering support, technical assistance, and solidarity with Somalia’s state-building and security initiatives, highlighting the strength of the bilateral relationship between the two brotherly nations.

The Government of Türkiye has played a key role in supporting and training the Somali National Army through military programs and capacity-building initiatives.

Turkey and Somalia also enjoy good partnership which has also extended to broader cooperation in various state institutions including education and humanitarian sectors.

Türkiye operates a large military training camp in Mogadishu, which serves as a central hub for training Somali forces and strengthening the country’s security infrastructure.

Somali minister of Defence Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, Somali military commander Major Gen. Odowaa Yussuf Rage, senior government military officials from both Somalia and Turkey were present at the graduation ceremony.
