MOGADISHU– The Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Federal Government of Somalia Jibril Abdirashid Hajji has on Wednesday inaugurated a two day Private Sector-Led National Transformation Workshop organized by the office of the Somali Prime Minister.

In a statement posted on his X handle formerly Twitter, Minister Jibril underscored the Federal government unwavering commitment to prioritizing the development of the private sector and enhancing cooperation to spearhead the implementation of the NTP.

On a different note, Minister Jibril returned to Mogadishu today from Arusha Tanzania while carrying East African Community’s flag following Somalia’s official membership to the East African Community regional bloc.

The Horn of Africa Nation finally joined the East African Community as the bloc’s 8th Partner State on Tuesday after officially depositing her instrument of ratification of the Treaty of Accession with the EAC Secretary General at a ceremony held at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.

Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, presented Somalia’s instrument of ratification to the EAC Secretary General, Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki, completing the admission process in line with EAC Procedure for Admission of new members.

On December 16, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud signed the treaty of accession of Somalia into the bloc at a brief ceremony presided over by South Sudan President Salva Kirr, current EAC chairman and witnessed by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

Somalia formally applied to join the East African Community bloc in 2012 but political and security situation bedeviling the Nation could not guarantee its membership.
