Wajir County marked Mazingira Day 2024 with an impactful tree-planting exercise and a vibrant community procession aimed at raising environmental awareness.
The event, led by Yakub, the Cabinet Executive Committee Member for Environment, included key figures such as County Commissioner Mr. Karuku, CEC for Health Madam Habiba, and Municipality CEO Mr. Omar. Together, they rallied stakeholders, local residents, and organizations in a united effort to promote environmental sustainability.
During the event, the CEC for Environment emphasized the importance of collective action in protecting the environment.
“As we mark this Mazingira Day, let us all commit to not only planting trees today but also cultivating a culture where tree planting becomes part of our everyday lives. Our environment is our responsibility, and together, we can make Wajir greener and more resilient,” Mr. Yakub stated.

Notable contributors included the Kenya Red Cross, USAID STAWI, Save the Children, APID, the Kenya Forest Service, and the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
Their involvement provided valuable resources and expertise, enhancing the event’s impact on tree planting and environmental awareness in the community.
