Wajir County Women Representative Fatuma Jehow on Wednesday launched a range of development and empowerment projects and Girl Child initiatives at Wajir Girls Secondary school.
Jehow through the NGAF distributed bursary funds, economic empowerment cheques, sewing machines , umbrella and wheel chairs to women, youth, and people living with disabilities in the county.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, Jehow underscored her office unwavering commitment to continue supporting the vulnerable and underprivileged families within the community.
She used the opportunity to condemn rising cases of rape which have recently become rampant in the county.
Jehow called on parents to keep guard on their children, saying that cases of drug abuse and intoxication has skyrocketed in the town.
” I would like to add my voice to the rising cases of rape on innocent girls in the county. I appeal to the parents to take charge of their children.” said Jehow.
Women leaders from the Parliamentary caucus led by Garissa county MP Udgoon Siyad who took to the podium commended the good work that Jehow is doing in the county and urged the residents to work closely with her in a bid to foster development initiatives in the town.
A number of families who benefitted from the distribution exercise expressed gratitude to the women mp for her timely response and kind gesture and called on to continue with the good service to the county residents.
Among notable figures who were in attendance included Wajir County First Lady Rukia Abdinasir, Fatuma Ibrahim, former Wajir County MP, Senator Farhiya Ali Haji; Sulekha Harun, Nominated MP; Laikipia county women representative Jane Kagiri; her Migori counterpart Fatuma Mohamed, Lilian Chebet from Trans Nzoia; and Ann Wanjiku from Kiambu County.
