A Mandera court has sentenced a National Police Reservist (NPR) to 17 years in prison after being found guilty of defiling a 17 year old girl.
The court said that Hussein Ibrahim Hassan who is accused of defiling the minor has been convicted after adducing concrete evidence beyond reasonable doubt that their was penetration of the victim’s genital.
Mandera resident magistrate Mukambi Kimani said that the man committted the sexual assault in a house located at Mandera Central village before she was rescued by good Samaritans.
“The accused person is hereby sentenced to serve a term of imprisonment of 15 years and this shall be calculated from the 5 th of November 2021 when the accused was convicted.” said Kimani.
The Family of the girl welcome the decision of the court of sending the convict to jail and requested the court not to allow the man an appeal against the judgement saying they are facing extortion and intimidation.
“We welcome the decision of the court to sentencing the accused after so many months of seeking justice for our daughter who is suffering from the injuries she got from the defilement.” said a family member.
On the other hand ,the family of the accused opposed the ruling of the court lamenting that their kin was unfairly convicted while reiterating his innocence.
“I’m the wife of the accused and I’m worried about the upbringing of our children since we have small kids that need upbringing and that Hassan was the sole breadwinner of the family” said Farhiya Ibrahim.
On November 5th Mandera court sentenced a Adan Ibrahim Alii to life imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old girl.
The determination of the court will serve as a deterrent to others who would intend to commit such acts in a town where cases of sexual offences are becoming rampant.
