In a statement signed by Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, the Somaliland government has stated that it will not accept the amnesty demanded by Somaliland politicians in Somalia, and that they will face legal action.
The statement said, “Every citizen of the Republic of Somaliland, be it a government official, civil society, association, party, scholar, traditional leader, writer or any other segment of society participating in Somali politics is prohibited.
“The two houses of the Parliament of the Republic of Somaliland shall be charged with treason, in accordance with Articles 1 and 2 of the Resolution of the two Houses”.
It was stated that only the government can participate in the meetings between Somaliland and Somalia, which are considered to be in the interest of and not against the existence of Somaliland and the constitution of Somaliland, in accordance with the decision of the two chambers. / G / 01/02/2012, dated 05/02/2012.
Anyone involved in Somali politics who is banned from a decision by both houses of parliament in Somaliland will not be pardoned before a competent court of law.
All security agencies and other government agencies have been instructed to comply with the order issued by the President of Somaliland.
Below is the statement in details;-
1) Every citizen of the Republic of Somaliland, be it a public official, a citizen, an association, a party, a scholar, a traditional leader, a literary person or any other segment of society participating in Somali politics is prohibited from the decision.
The two Houses of the Parliament of the Republic of Somaliland shall be charged with treason, in accordance with Articles 1 and 2 of the Decree of the two Houses.
2) 2) Only the Government may participate in the meetings of Somaliland and Somalia, which are deemed to be in its interest and which do not contradict the existence of the Sovereignty and the Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland, in accordance with the Resolution of the two Houses. 3) 3) Any person who participates in any political activity in Somalia which is prohibited by the Resolution of the two Houses of the Parliament of the Republic of Somaliland, shall not be pardoned before a competent Court of Appeal.
4) 4) All relevant security agencies shall implement the decision of the two Houses and bring the perpetrators to justice, in order to strengthen the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Somaliland.
