NAIROBI- President William Ruto departs this evening for Doha, Qatar, for a high-level visit aimed at strengthening economic partnerships, attracting investment, and advancing Kenya’s development agenda.

During the visit, President Ruto will attend the United Nations Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2), where global leaders will deliberate on strategies to reduce poverty, promote decent work, and enhance social inclusion.

While in Doha, the President is expected to seal major investment agreements focused on modernising Kenya’s infrastructure and advancing flagship projects in energy and transport.

He will also hold bilateral talks with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, and strategic development initiatives.

According to a statement by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, the President’s engagements will also target expanded Qatari investments and partnerships in key sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, green hydrogen, health, tourism, transport, and logistics.

“President Ruto will champion greater collaboration in food security and climate-smart agriculture, as well as renewable energy projects that support Kenya’s green transition,” Hussein said.

The President will further engage with Qatari business leaders to promote public-private partnerships and explore new opportunities for youth employment and skills development.

To support Kenyans working abroad and open new employment avenues, President Ruto is expected to expand the Kenya-Qatar Bilateral Labour Agreement. The revised pact will include more professional and technical roles and strengthen skills-training initiatives tailored to Qatar’s labour market.

“This will create new pathways for young Kenyans and support those already working in Qatar as they continue contributing to both economies,” the statement added.

At the WSSD2 summit, President Ruto will deliver statements on behalf of Kenya and the Africa Group, advocating for a fairer global financial system, universal access to essential services, and reforms that enhance African representation in global institutions.

He is also expected to call for stronger multilateral cooperation and equitable development frameworks that advance shared prosperity across nations.
