ISIOLO- Interior and National Administration CS Kipchumba Murkomen has issued firm instructions to security agencies to take preventive measures, including arresting facilitators of goonism before they reach political rallies.

“The DCI should not wait until goons are in a particular rally. They must be able to take preventive measures and arrest them,” he said.

He also urged Kenyans to stop supporting and attending rallies organised by politicians who sponsor or facilitate goonism.

“I am advising Kenyans not to go to rallies of politicians who walk around with goons,” he urged.

Murkomen further revealed that more lives could have been lost during the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay had the police failed to take preventive action early enough.

“If the NPS, IG and DCI had not arrested those criminals before the rally, we would be talking about something else. More lives could have been lost had they not taken preventive measures based on intelligence reports,” said the CS.

Urging political leaders to work closely with security agencies, Murkomen said Linda Mwananchi ignored security advisories issued to them and instead proceeded to mobilise more goons.

“I want to urge all politicians to work with security officials and follow security protocols to ensure that their meetings are safe.” he said.

“It is a big shame that they are pretending to be angels, yet they are the ones who mobilised goons,” he added while taking a swipe at the opposition for representing and bailing out goons when they are charged.

Murkomen was speaking in Oldonyiro, Isiolo County, during a Youth and Women Empowerment Programme.
