Sector 5 Commander Col. Oscar Hatungimana and senior officers drawn from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) on Sunday assessed impacts of floods in Xawaadley in Middle Shabelle region .
The officers called for urgent humanitarian response to help the people affected by floods and rehabilitate critical infrastructure damaged by the deluge.
During the visit, Col. Hatungimana discussed long-term solutions to fortify river banks and counter Al-Shabaab militant group threats on the local people.
ATMIS in a statement said it is committed to supporting Somali communities affected by crises while maintaining security and stability.

The African Union Peace Mission in addition to keeping peace in the Horn of Africa Nation, has been significantly involved in philanthropic and humanitarian efforts aimed at helping the Somali people facing different challenges including drought.
