NAIROBI- Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Wednesday hosted a delegation from Laikipia County, led by Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere, at the Ministry Headquarters.

The discussions centered on the management and restoration of Mukogodo Forest, a crucial initiative in Kenya’s ambitious goal of growing 15 billion trees by 2032.

“The team, comprising Community Land Associations (CLA) and conservancies, underscored the importance of forest management and landscape restoration in achieving Kenya’s 15 billion tree target by 2032,” CS Duale stated.

Representatives from four CLAs surrounding Mukogodo Forest updated the CS on land governance and ongoing development projects.

They also advocated for the forest’s conversion into a community forest, arguing that this would enhance sustainable management.

CS Duale briefed the delegation on the newly introduced Carbon Markets Regulations, emphasizing that “40% of carbon project proceeds must benefit local communities.” He also encouraged them to take an active role in conservation to “maximize these opportunities.”

The meeting was attended by Chief Conservator of Forests Mr. Alex Lemarkoko, Forestry Secretary for Administration Mr. Evans Mutari, and Ms. Susan Boit from the 15bn Tree Growing Initiative Secretariat.
