GARISSA- Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has called on former President Uhuru Kenyatta to allow President William Ruto the space to govern without interference, urging him to emulate his predecessors by stepping back from active political commentary.
Speaking during a public event, Duale criticized Uhuru for his recent remarks about the Ruto administration, in which the former president accused the government of being intolerant to dissent, particularly from the youth.
“We gave you space to rule for ten years when you were the President. We did not incite you but gave you the chance to be President. Please follow the example of your predecessors and give President William Ruto a chance to rule,” said Duale.
The Cabinet Secretary also pointed to what he described as key policy failures during Kenyatta’s administration, including the stalled Affordable Housing Project and the Universal Health Care scheme.
“The way you were given ten years of respect, even you give President Ruto a chance to rule,” Duale added.
His remarks come in response to Uhuru’s weekend criticism of Ruto’s administration, where the former Head of State accused the government of reacting defensively to the voices of young people expressing their frustrations.
The exchange underscores a deepening rift between the current and former presidents, with tensions continuing to rise amid ongoing political realignments and public discourse on governance and accountability.
