NAIROBI– The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, this morning presided over the inauguration of the NHIF Pending Medical Claims Verification Committee at Afya House, Nairobi.

The Committee, established through Kenya Gazette Notice No. 4069 of 28th March 2025, is mandated to scrutinize and verify pending medical claims submitted to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) between 1st July 2022 and 30th September 2024. It will also make recommendations to the Ministry of Health on the settlement of verified claims, among other responsibilities.

In his remarks, Hon. Duale expressed confidence in the Committee and urged the members to undertake a thorough and objective review of all outstanding claims. He emphasized that while the Government acknowledges the financial constraints facing some healthcare providers, transparency, accountability, and value for money must guide the entire verification process.

“This Committee is a critical step towards restoring public trust in our health financing system. We must ensure that every shilling spent delivers meaningful health outcomes, in line with the Government’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” said the Cabinet Secretary.

Committee Chairperson Mr. James Masiro, while acknowledging the magnitude and urgency of the task ahead, assured the Ministry of the team’s commitment to deliver within the set timelines. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, diligence, and integrity, noting the sensitivity of the assignment and the need to uphold public trust.

“We understand that the success of this process depends on our ability to work collaboratively and uphold the highest standards of professionalism. We are fully committed to earning and sustaining the trust placed in us,” he stated.

Hon. Duale was accompanied by Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni (Public Health and Professional Standards), Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai (Medical Services), Director-General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, Social Health Authority Acting CEO Mr. Robert Ingasira, and SHA Chairperson Mr. Abdi Mohamed, alongside other Ministry officials and Committee members.
