NAIROBI, Kenya โ€” The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, on Wednesday held a high-level consultative meeting with the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), led by its Chairperson Hassan Ole Naado, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships in delivering quality healthcare under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) framework.

SUPKEM, which operates an extensive health network comprising 20 hospitals, 12 health centres, and 32 dispensaries countrywide, pledged its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The council is set to focus on expanding maternal and mental health services to underserved and marginalised communities.

Addressing the urgent need to reduce maternal mortality, CS Duale urged SUPKEM to rally other Muslim professional bodies that uphold values of trust and integrity to join hands in advancing equitable and effective healthcare at the grassroots level.

The Cabinet Secretary also encouraged the Council to mobilise Muslim communities to register under the Social Health Authority (SHA), a critical step in accelerating the rollout of the Taifa Care model under UHC.

In addition, CS Duale briefed the delegation on the Ministryโ€™s progress in enhancing digital health governance. He reaffirmed the governmentโ€™s commitment to eliminating unqualified practitioners and called on SUPKEM to ensure its facilities meet accreditation and regulatory standards.

Also present at the meeting were the Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, and the Director of Primary Health Care, Dr. Salim Hussein.
