MOYALE, MARSABIT- Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has called on Kenyans to register en masse for the new Social Health Alliance (SHA), a transformative scheme under the government’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) plan.
Speaking as the chief guest at a fundraising event for Harhosa Mixed Day Secondary School at Moyale Baraza Park in Marsabit County, Duale emphasized that SHA offers comprehensive, inclusive healthcare for all citizens, regardless of employment status.
He highlighted that unlike the defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) which he criticized for favoring salaried individuals SHA allows for broader family registration. Individuals can register up to four wives and an unlimited number of children, provided they can prove dependency.
“The SHA is designed to serve all Kenyans equally. It’s not a privilege for the few, but a right for every citizen,” Duale stated. “Those opposing it are cartels who were benefitting from fraudulent claims under NHIF. We will not let them derail this progress.”
The event drew several notable leaders, including Marsabit’s first Governor and former Treasury CS Amb. Ukur Yatani, North Horr MP Hon. Adhe Wario, and other regional officials.
Duale also took the opportunity to rally pastoralist communities to back President William Ruto in the 2027 general election, underscoring the government’s commitment to uplifting historically marginalized regions.
SHA is part of the Ruto administration’s broader healthcare reform agenda, aiming to guarantee equitable access to medical services for every Kenyan.
