Member of Parliament for Daadab Constituency Farah Maalim has called for increased security around President Dr. William Ruto as the National Assembly considers the impeachment Motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Maalim expressed concerns about potential threats to the President’s safety, emphasizing the need for vigilance given the gravity of the situation.

The Dadaab lawmaker warned that any reckless act targeting the President could have serious consequences for the country.

“There is concern about individuals who may have the capacity to harm the President. The head of state must be fully protected until this motion is resolved,” he stated.

He further stressed the importance of protecting not only the President but also the 291 Members of Parliament who have signed the impeachment motion.

“We must ensure the safety of our MPs, and most importantly, we must safeguard the system. The Inspector General must protect our President to the fullest, because in the context of our Constitution, a reckless act could change the course of history. God forbid anything happens to our President,” Maalim added.

Maalim also raised alarm over individuals who, he claimed, could plan harmful actions, insisting that the President must remain under heightened security until the impeachment process is complete.

“If, God forbid, something happens, we would face far greater challenges.”

Supporting Maalim’s sentiments, Leader of the Majority Party, Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu), noted that while Parliament does not have the authority to advise the Inspector General (IG) of Police  or the Director of National Intelligence Service (NIS) on the President’s security, it is also crucial to ensure the safety of all MPs.
