HULUGHO– The Deputy Inspector-General of the Administration Police Service (DIG–APS), Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, on Tuesday visited Hulugho Township in Garissa County to console the family of the late Abdifatah Ghani, the Chief of Boma Location, who was brutally killed earlier this week.
Mr. Masengeli represented the Inspector-General of the National Police Service (IG–NPS), Mr. Douglas Kanja, during the visit. He also met teachers and pupils at Hulugho Primary School, where he conveyed condolences following the killing of teacher Peter Musili.
The two murders occurred in separate but related incidents within the township early Monday morning.
In a message delivered on behalf of the IG–NPS, Mr. Masengeli assured residents of Hulugho that multi-agency security teams had been deployed and were working round-the-clock to track down and apprehend those responsible for the killings.
He described the incident as senseless and tragic, noting that it had claimed the lives of both a local administrative officer and a young, dedicated teacher.
He emphasized that such an incident was unprecedented in the township and called on members of the public to cooperate fully with security agencies by sharing crucial information that could aid investigations and restore safety.
During his visit, the DIG also paid a courtesy call to the widow of the slain chief, Ms. Aftina Shalle Wabi, where he conveyed condolences on behalf of the National Police Service and the government. Chief Ghani was laid to rest on Monday in accordance with Islamic rites.
Later in the day, Mr. Masengeli held a closed-door meeting with officers from formed-up units and forward operating bases (FOBs) in the area.
He was briefed through a detailed presentation on ongoing and planned security operations aimed at strengthening public safety.
He urged officers to adopt a more robust and proactive approach to policing, stressing the need for heightened vigilance within Hulugho Township and the surrounding border areas.
Accompanying the DIG were the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU), Mr. Ranson Lolmodooni, SAIG, and the Director of Corporate Communications and Spokesperson of the National Police Service, Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, AIG.
Also present were officials from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), including the Director of Administration, Mr. Ibrahim Mumin, and the Director of Staffing, Ms. Antonina Lentoijoni.
