It is a sigh of relief for Mandera hoteliers following the reopening of eateries in the county after they were closed due to an outbreak of cholera.
Health county executive committee member Mohamud Eda said on Monday that the reopening was occasioned by a decline in the number of cholera cases in the county.
He said the county government’s strict measures to stop the spread of the disease had borne fruits, leading to a steady decrease in the number of infections.
“Ile juhudi serikali ya kaunti imeweka inaanza kuzaa matunda ( The county government’s efforts has begun to bear fruits,” said Eda.
Eda directed hotels to provide hand-washing facilities and ensure proper disposal of waste.
“We have banned the hawking of food , juices and sweetened waters in schools and across the town . Authorities are on the watch-out to arrest anyone contravening this directive.”
Hoteliers welcomed the move to reopen the eateries and assured the county government that they would abide by the established protocols with a view to avert further crisis.
