Fai Sultanate is expected to make a major declaration on who will bear the flag of the community in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Wajir County slated for August next year.
Speaking exclusively to Frontier Online, Sultan Najib Ugas Ahmed confirmed that they will unveil a candidate for the clan and deliberations on the paraphernalia and the mechanism to use in coming up with a final nominee are in top gear.
“It is true that we are scheduled to make an announcement on Sunday on who will become the flag bearer for the clan and we are yet to settle on a name.”said Sultan Najib.
He further confided that they are in receipt of applications from four candidates who are gunning for the top seat and divulged the names to this news outlet as follows;
1) Hassan Wehliye Khalid
2) Dr.Hassan Mohamed Adan.
3) Eng. Bash Gedi Abdille.
4) Ugas Sheikh Mohamed.
Sources close to Frontier Online intimated that Ouster former governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud did not submit his application to the sultanate council, efforts to get comments from Mohamud flopped, since our calls went unanswered.
On the other hand, Sultan Najib further outlined that they have not figured out on which criteria to use in coming up with a final name but stated that the four aspirants will be subjected to decision making process.
However, he underscored that they have marshalled all their efforts to coming up with a sole flagbearer for the gubernatorial position and discussions on whether or not they will trickle down to the Member of Parliament and MCAs seats are not currently on the table.
The list of endorsement by various communities in Wajir County continues to gains momentum by the day as the number of gubernatorial hopefuls seeking to succeed governor Ahmed Ali Muktar to grow.
Former Wajir governor Ahmed Abdullahi who is seeking to reclaim back his seat was endorsed to vie for the top seat in the county by his Mataan clan after meeting them in a series of charm offensives to popularise his gubernatorial bid.
Business man Siyad Abdullahi was endorsed by his clan, Midhimal to contest for the coveted.
Mohamed Abdikadir Abdille was also given the nod by his Mattaan a sub clan of Degodia community.
However, Frontier Online can not authoritatively report on whether or not the immediate ex- governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud will defy the decision of his Fai clan and announce his candidature later since he has been out of the public limelight for a while now.
