GAROWE– The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Somalia on Monday embarked on Cash – transfer programs for vulnerable families severely affected by the ongoing drought in the country.
The program which is being implemented in Somalia’s Puntland State saw hundreds of families benefit from the project and enhance their living standards.
According to the global Food Agency, it has also kick-started a Cash- For- Work opportunities for the people in a bid to enable them put food on the table and improve their lives.
A historic drought has had a devastating impact on Somalia's rural communities.

Residents who benefitted from the program thanked FAO and other humanitarian agencies for the support that has uplifted their lives.
Puntland State is among regions hardly hit by the devastating drought which has wiped out livestock and even claimed people’s lives.
The program is also supported and facilitated by the Germany Embassy in Somalia.
