LAFEY, MANDERA- A week-long free Eye Surgery and Check-Up camp organized by area Member of Parliament Mohamed Abdikheir, in partnership with specialists from Medical and Educational Aid to Kenya (MEAK), concluded in Lafey Constituency, Mandera County.
During the period, a total of 1411 individuals received medical attention, with 246 patients undergoing surgical procedures.
Notably, twenty children aged between 0-15 years, diagnosed by eye specialists, have been referred to Lions Sightfirst Eye Hospital in Nairobi. The MP’s office has pledged to cover the costs of their specialized treatment.
Speaking to Frontier Online, MP Mohamed Abdikheir expressed gratitude to the residents of Lafey Constituency for their overwhelming turnout and cooperation during the camp.
“I would like to thank the residents of Lafey constituency for their strong participation and cooperation with our visitors during the camp,” said MP Abdikheir.
Previously, residents of Lafey Constituency had to travel to neighboring towns like Elwak for services such as eye operations. Mzee Hassan Abdi, one of the beneficiaries of the free eye surgeries, expressed his gratitude in a telephone interview with Frontier Online.
“We used to travel for hours and spend close to 30,000 shillings for an operation, but having this free eye surgery clinic brought closer to us by our MP is truly a blessing, and we thank him for that,” said Mzee Hassan Abdi.
In addition to the medical services provided, the area MP engaged one-on-one with constituents, listening to their concerns and suggestions during the Free Eye Surgery and Check-Up camp.
