Mandera West MP Hon. Adan Yusuf Haji has been re-elected unopposed as Chairperson of the National Assembly Committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.

His re-election affirms his leadership in a Committee crucial to fostering national unity and promoting equitable access to opportunities.

The Committee, however, saw a leadership change in the vice – chairperson position, with Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were (Kasipul) taking over from Hon. Liza Chelule ( Nakuru).

Hon. Were was elected unopposed after Hon Chelule withdrew from the race in his favor.

“I had intended to defend my position, but in the spirit of fostering cohesion within the Committee, I have stepped down for Hon. Were,” Chelule stated.

She expressed gratitude to Members for their support during her tenure and pledged to remain an active and committed Member of the Committee.

In his acceptance remarks, Hon. Haji thanked Members for entrusting him with another term, emphasizing the Committee’s vital role in strengthening national cohesion and ensuring equal opportunities for all.

He called for continued teamwork and commitment from Members, attributing the Committee’s past successes to collective effort.

Hon. Were, on his part, expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him, terming his election as vice – Chairperson a great honor.

“As a long-serving Member of this Committee, I am proud of my elevation and pledge to serve with utmost dedication and commitment,” he said.

The Chairperson also welcomed seven new Members to the Committee, including Hon. Wachira Rahab Mukami (Nyeri County MP), Hon. Joseph Samal Lomwa (Isiolo North), Hon. Agnes Pareyio Mantaine (Narok North), Hon. Joshua Odongo Oron (Kisumu Central), Hon. Dick Maungu (Luanda), Hon. Maina Jane Njeri (Kirinyaga County MP), Hon. Lekumontare Jackson Lentoijoni (Samburu East), and Hon. Antony Wainaina Njoroge (Kieni).
