Mogadishu– Jubaland government has accused the Federal government of Somalia of meddling in the affairs of the airport in the Jubaland State.
In a statement carried on their official Twitter handle, the jubaland authorities regreted yesterday’s incident where a cargo plane caught fire in the middle of Dolow airport upon landing from the capital Mogadishu.
Pictures obtained from the airstrip showed the aircraft engulfed in flames and blumes of smoke coming out from the airport.An official at the airport intimated that the C-160 model aircraft belonged to WFP.
The cargo aircraft had taken off from Moqadishu’s Aden Abdulle international airport destined to the volatile Gedo region of Jubaland regional State of Somalia.
Incidents of air accidents are common in the Horn of Africa State with over 7 incidents of air accidents reported and are attributed to mechanical mishaps.
The motive behind the inferno could not be immediately established but sources privy to the development said that the crew of the aircraft had disembarked from the plane before it caught the fire.
