NAIROBI– Leaders from Mandera County, led by Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif, have strongly condemned the deadly attack in Muruthow, Banisa Constituency, where six members of the same extended family were brutally killed on Wednesday night.

The attack, which has sent shockwaves through the community, is being described as a heinous act of violence that threatens to destabilize peace in the county.

In the wake of the killings, Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif extended his condolences and urged residents to remain calm and united.

“It is unfortunate that innocent people are being killed,” he said. “I send my heartfelt condolences to the family and the people of Banisa for their loss.”

The governor noted that the conflict in Banisa is not new and emphasized the importance of finding a permanent solution.

“The issue in Banisa has resurfaced time and again. As leaders from Mandera, we are coming together in Banisa to discuss and find a lasting solution to this matter,” he said.

He further called on residents to avoid retaliatory violence, stating: “I urge the people of Banisa to refrain from unnecessary conflict. Let us remain calm and peaceful as we seek justice and reconciliation.”

Mandera Senator and UDM Party Leader Ali Roba also condemned the attack, describing it as a senseless and tragic act that has caused immense grief.

“We are deeply sorry for what has happened in Banisa,” said Senator Roba. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. This is a tragic moment for all of us.”

He appealed to the community to show restraint and unity in the face of provocation.

“As leaders of Mandera, we stand united in condemning this act. We appeal to the people of Banisa to uphold peace and maintain coexistence during this difficult time,” he added.

Mandera North Member of Parliament Bashir Sheikh Abdullahi also addressed the incident, expressing sorrow and emphasizing the need for peace.

“We are very sorry for what has happened. It is truly unacceptable,” he said. “I extend my condolences to the affected family. I urge Banisa residents to avoid further escalation and to preserve peace as we work together to resolve this.”

The leaders’ remarks come amid rising concerns over clan-based tensions in the county. Security agencies have been urged to expedite investigations and ensure those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

Authorities have increased patrols in the area as part of efforts to prevent further violence, while local peace committees are expected to play a key role in mediation and community engagement.

The attack has not only left families grieving but has also reignited fears of renewed cycles of violence if peace efforts are not urgently prioritized.
