GARISSA– In a bold move to bridge the digital divide and uplift the potential of Kenya’s youth, Nominated Hon. UmulKheir Harun Mohamed has reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to empowering young people through technology and innovation.
As an active member of the Communications, Information and Innovation Committee, MP . UmulKheir Harun is playing a pivotal role in the Government’s Digital Programme—an ambitious national initiative aimed at digitizing institutions and expanding access to internet connectivity across all counties through the ongoing Public WiFi Project.
In a collaborative effort with the Garissa County Government, the Garissa Youth and Media Hub, and the Northern Innovation Hub, MP UmulKheir facilitated the installation of free public WiFi at the Garissa Library through the support of the ICT Authority (ICTA).

The facility was also furnished with essential digital equipment and infrastructure, creating a conducive environment for learning and innovation.
Going a step further, her foundation made generous contributions including laptops, monitors, and sound systems—vital tools for digital learning and content creation.
These donations aim to ensure that young people, particularly from marginalized areas, are not left behind in the digital revolution.
“We must equip our youth with the tools and skills to compete and thrive in today’s digital world,” said MP UmulKheir. “I call upon county governments and development partners to invest more in such impactful initiatives. The future belongs to a digitally empowered generation.”
The recent visit by the National Employment Authority to the Garissa Centre underscores the growing recognition of such community-driven digital empowerment efforts.
