NAIROBI- Controversial Pangani Police officer Ahmed Rashid is set to be arraigned in court in the coming days to answer to charges of murder.
This is after the independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) recommended for his prosecution following the fatal shooting of two unarmed persons in a suburb in Eastleigh neighborhood in March 2017.
In a statement, the oversight body said it has obtained a summons against Corporal Ahmed Rashid for the killings.

The besieged cop is yet to comment on the matter.
In 2018 he featured in a BBC Africa Eye Investigation done by journalist Jamal Mohamed.
IPOA further adds that the decision to charge Rashid comes after months of investigations into the killings.
Corporal Rashid led a notorious feared group of police officers stationed in Pangani dubbed “Pangani six” who attracted condemnation and praises in equal measure over their actions in responding to and handling the then surging criminal activities in Nairobi.
The officer is set to take plea on December 8, 2022 after the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) obtained summoning orders from the Milimani High Court to have the officer appear in court.

The decision to charge Rashid comes a month after President William Ruto ordered for the disbandment of an elite police squad who were accused of killings and series of abductions in the city
Eleven officers from the special unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
have been arraigned in court facing multiple charges in court, including the disappearance of two Indian nationals and Kenyan driver in July this year.
