MOGADISHU- The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today received and welcomed renowned former international football stars at the Presidential Palace ( Villa Somalia) in Mogadishu.

The delegation included Samuel Eto’o, President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Jay-Jay Okocha, who are on a historic visit to Somalia.

President Hassan Sheikh expressed his deep gratitude to the visiting football icons, highlighting that their presence is a powerful symbol of Somalia’s improving security and its steady path toward recovery and development.

He noted that their visit sends a strong message to the world about the progress taking place in the country.

“The Federal Government of Somalia is committed to advancing the development of all sports in the country and to promoting the talent of young Somali athletes,” the President said.

“This visit reflects growing global confidence in Somalia and supports our efforts to inspire and engage the youth.”

The President also emphasized the importance of sports as a tool for unity, peacebuilding, and youth empowerment.

He thanked the football legends for their support and encouragement, which he said would help strengthen Somalia’s role in regional and international sports.

The ceremony was attended by key officials, including the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohamed Abdiqadir Ali, President of the Somali Football Federation, Mr. Ali Abdi Mohamed, President of the South Sudan Football Association, Mr. Augustino Maduot Parek, and President of the Djibouti Football Federation, Mr. Suleiman Hassan Waberi.

The visit marks a significant moment in Somalia’s journey toward peace and international engagement through sports diplomacy.
