MOGADISHU– The Commissioner of Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamuud Moallim, held a meeting with Kenya’s Climate Envoy, Ali Daud, in Nairobi on Friday.
The discussion between the two officials focused on how Somalia and Kenya cancollaborate to improve climate adaptation and disaster response in the region.
During the meeting, they engaged discussions on the growing impact of climate change in East Africa, including frequent droughts, floods, and other natural disasters that affect millions of people.
Both sides underscored the importance of closer cooperation to help communities become more prepared and resilient in the face of these challenges.
Commissioner Moallim highlighted the importance of regional partnerships, especially in sharing information, resources, and technical skills.
He said Somalia is working to improve early warning systems and disaster preparedness, but support from partners like Kenya can make those efforts more effective.
On his part, Ali Daud, Kenya’s Climate Envoy, said that climate change is a shared problem that affects the whole region.
He called for stronger ties between governments and more joint programs that can help reduce the risk of disasters and protect vulnerable communities.
The meeting is seen as a positive step toward deeper collaboration between Somalia and Kenya in the areas of climate action and emergency response.
Both officials promised to continue working together to build a safer and more climate-resilient future for their countries.
