Nairobi— The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Nairobi, Kenya hosted an exceptional high-level event on the evening of June 30, 2025, to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Somalia’s independence.

The celebration, held at the prestigious Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, gathered a wide cross-section of Somali citizens, dignitaries, artists, intellectuals, and friends of Somalia, including Kenyan officials and members of the international diplomatic corps.

The event, organized under the theme of “Unity, Patriotism, and Progress,” was marked by an atmosphere of deep reflection and celebration.

It honored Somalia’s rich history, the resilience of its people, and the sacrifices made in the struggle for independence, while also highlighting the nation’s ongoing journey toward peace, development, and national unity.

Ambassador Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, Somalia’s Envoy to Kenya, who delivered a keynote address, underscored the enduring significance of July 1 in the hearts and minds of Somalis around the world.

He paid tribute to the forefathers of the independence movement and emphasized the importance of preserving their legacy through continued commitment to nation-building and reconciliation.

“Today, we honor the courage, vision, and sacrifices of those who fought for our independence. Sixty-five years later, Somalia stands resilient on the path of reconstruction, unity, and hope,” said Ambassador Abdulle.

“This celebration is not only a remembrance of our past, but also a declaration of our determination to secure a prosperous future for the generations to come.”

Ambassador Abdulle also reaffirmed the strength of Somali-Kenyan bilateral relations, describing the partnership as “deep-rooted, strategic, and based on mutual respect, shared interests, and good neighborliness.”

He extended gratitude to the Government and people of Kenya for their continued collaboration and support, particularly in hosting Somali communities and fostering regional peace efforts.

The celebration featured a vibrant cultural showcase including live musical performances, poetry, traditional dances, and speeches that reflected the heritage and aspirations of the Somali people.

Somali artists and cultural figures including prominent singer Dayah Dalnurshe played a central role in creating a night that was both moving and memorable, reinforcing a collective sense of identity and belonging.

The Somali Embassy expressed heartfelt appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of the event including organizers, community leaders, youth groups, and the Somali diaspora in Kenya.
