JEDDAH- Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has arrived in Saudi Arabia to perform the “minor Hajj” commonly known as Umrah.
Prime minister Barre left Mogadishu, the National capital on Saturday morning with the intention to join thousands of Muslim faithfuls from across the World who have gathered in Mecca in a bid to perform umrah pilgrimage.
According to a statement posted on the office of the Somali Prime Minister, Mr. Hamza prayed for the Somali people who are continuing to grapple with myriad of challenges including the devastating drought.
“Somali PM Hamza Abdi Barre while observing the umrah rituals prayed for the entire Somali people to Allah to grant them relief from all the sufferings they are undergoing.” read the statement.

He added that this year will be a fruitful year for Somali people as the government continues to wrestle Al-Shabab from strategic towns in the Horn of Africa Nation.
Several senior Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) officials accompanied the Prime Minister to the middle East nation.
It is considered ideal for Muslims to perform Umesh during this holy month of Ramadhan but the minor Hajj can essentially be observed in any time of the year.
Umrah is performed under strict measures and guidelines established by the government of Saudi Arabia.
There are five pillars in Islam, Hajj is the last and fifth pillar. Others shahadah (statement of faith),Salat (daily prayer), sawm (fasting), zakat (giving of alms).
