MOGADISHU- The United Nations ( UN) has pledged its unwavering commitment to continue supporting the Somali youth.
Speaking at the event to commemorate the Somali Youth day in the capital Mogadishu, Kiki Ghebo underscored the importance of involving the Somali youth in peace and
state-building efforts.
In a statement carried on the United Assistance Mission in Somalia ( UNSOM), Ms Kiki also congratulated Somalia on the launch of the National Youth Policy.

Ghebo is the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Somalia.
Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre had on Saturday inaugurated the National Youth Conference.
In his speech, PM Barre reiterated the Somali government’s commitment to ensuring that security and peace prevails in the country.
He highlighted the important role the youth play in State- building while calling on them to assist his administration in getting rid of the Al-Shabab and the drug menace in the country that has seen many youth engage in criminal activities.
“Somali Youth are the backbone of this nation and it’s our priority to assist and motivate them to reach their goal to rebuild their country. The Government is bound to ensure that the Somali youth participate in the politics, society, national defense, security and economy of this country”, Hamza said in a statement posted on the Somali News Agency.

Hundreds of youth from across the country showed up for the event.
This annual event is celebrated on 20th of May and marks the founding of the Somali Youth League, a youth- driven political movement which was formed on May 15th.
Somalia, a country reeling from the effects of decades of deadly civil war has one of the youngest populations in the world.
