GARISSA– Desperate villagers in Sangole’s Ijara constituency are calling for an urgent water supply following drying up of at least four water pans.

Speaking to Frontier Online , residents said the nearest water they can get is in Ijara Town about 15km asking for an urgent intervention from local leadership.

“Today at least one water boozer from special forces helped residents but it’s not enough, at least four villagers are hard hit and residents are really in dire need” said Aden Abdi Khalif the area chief.

The administrator said the affected villages includes Amora, Walmare, Agudaley, Elmaan, Bula Kurow, Bula Gaalaw and Sangale trading center.

He said the special security forces doing operations have been the only instrumental helping locals to supply water adding that there is an urgent need for precious commodity in the area.

“Schools have also been affected and it’s the security officials who were supplying water which is not enough,” he added.

Ibrahim Shidow, a resident of Sangole noted that villagers are in need of attention since intermittent supply of water boozers by either the area Mp or security officials working in the area.

He said even when water bowsers supply water there is no storage asking for storage tanks for residents to help them store water when they get supplies from different quarters.

“We are facing extreme situation all water pans have dried up, if we don’t get rains in few days then we might be at risk,” he added.

Kenya Red Cross’s Garissa coordinator Daud Ahmed told Frontier Online that there have at least two failed rainy season and situation is not good in some areas hence consorted efforts for intervention.
