WAJIR– The County department of Health has on Saturday launched polio campaign that is aimed at targeting 189,735 children under the age of 5 years across all the six sub-counties.

Speaking during the launch of the campaign, County executive committee member of Health Habiba Ali Maalim underscored Wajir County’s vaccination efforts, thus Fully immunized child coverage stands at 62%, while third polio dose vaccination stands at an impressive 86.8%.

“We are targeting 189,735 children under the age of 5 years across all the six sub-counties, we urge members of the public to bring their children for vaccination” said Habiba.

Wajir County CEC for Health Habiba Ali Maalim today presided over the launch of County police campaign scheduled to end 11th  October 2023.

She thanked partners involved in the campaign , including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Core Group, Save the Children, among others.

The county polio vaccination exercise is scheduled to come to an end on 11th October 2023.

Polio has afflicted communities worldwide leaving several children disabled and causing immense suffering among families because of the burden of taking care of the infected ones.
