Wajir County Women Representative, Fatuma Abdi Jehow, has announced the release of new funding to support the people of Wajir County, especially women, youth, and traders.

The funds are aimed at boosting the county’s important livestock sector, helping locals purchase livestock and invest in their businesses, with a focus on both local and export markets for long-term growth.

Jehow stressed that livestock is the backbone of Wajir’s economy and believes this program can improve the lives of many families in the region.

“Alhamdulillah, after extra efforts, FJ has secured this funding to support our hardworking community, especially women, youth, and traders.

This program will allow you to buy livestock and grow your businesses, creating lasting economic opportunities for all,” said Jehow.

Speaking in Wajir town today, the county MP said that funds will be given with the expectation of repayment to ensure the program’s sustainability and continue supporting others in the future.

She also mentioned that similar programs in other counties have had positive results, and now Wajir has the chance to benefit from the same success.

“We are already seeing people in our county exporting livestock. By working together with national and county governments, we can open more opportunities for those who depend on livestock for their income,” she added.

In addition to announcing the fund, Jehow recently took part in the Livestock Trade Sensitization and Market Linkage Workshop in Wajir, where she met with livestock traders.

The workshop was a great success, showing the community’s strong interest in improving their involvement in livestock trade.

“I encourage all livestock investors in Wajir to take full advantage of this opportunity,” Jehow said.

In her closing remarks, Jehow reminded everyone of the importance of managing the funds well.

“Pesa kuleta nayo, nitaleta, FJanaFikisha. But when it arrives, let’s use it wisely.”

This new initiative is set to provide a significant boost to Wajir County’s economy, improve livelihoods, and support the growth of the livestock sector.

Recently, the County Women Representative, launched Ksh 10 million Women Empowerment Fund which was aimed at assisting 700 women across the six constituencies of Wajir

The Women Empowerment Fund was focused on empowering women-led groups and cooperatives, particularly small-scale entrepreneurs such as fresh produce vendors (mama mbogas), milk sellers, and informal traders, all of whom play a vital role in the local economy.
