MOGADISHU-Somali government soldiers escorting VIP have last night shot dead two siblings after opening gun fire to a tricycle vehicle they were riding on near the always busy Dabka junction in the capital Mogadishu.
According to eyewitness, the government soldiers wanted to clear the road that was at the time experiencing heavy congestion, when they decided to open gun fire and the bullets reportedly caught up with the two hapless siblings who were later identified as Zakariye Mohamud Kalafoge and Sowda Mohamud Kalafoge.
The two kins were at the time of the incident said to have been heading to hospital to take dinner to their expectant elder sister who was admitted in a hospital before they encountered their death.
Speaking to journalists in Mogadishu town, the family of the murdered young siblings appealed to the Somali government to intervene and bring to book the soldiers behind the killing of their children whom they said were innocent and further added that they are worried about getting justice for their children.
Somalia Justice Minister Abdikadir Mohamed Nur in a quick response to the requests of the family, has promised to work round the clock and bring those behind the murder of the two siblings to justice.
In Moqadishu, killings of civilians is not news as government soldiers and troops serving under the African Union Mission (AMISOM) have severally been accused of orchestrating killings of civilians with abandon.
However, security analysts believe that the spates of the growing killings in the capital can be attributed to the perpetrators who usually walk scot free without being charged in court of laws for their actions and those arrested for such crimes are not usually incarcerated for their actions.
In the 14th of November this year, five Ugandan soldiers serving with the African Union Mission in Somalia were found guilty of killing seven civilians, with two sentenced to death and the other three given 39-year prison terms each.
