NAIROBI – A group of religious leaders drawn from the Fai clan have officially written a letter to express their wish for the clan sultanate to review their decision of coming up with Hassan Wehliye as the sole flag bearer of the clan ahead of the August slated general elections.
In a letter seen by Frontier Online dated December 8, the scholars whose names have formally been identified as; Sheikh Osman Mohamed Ismail, Mohamud Mohamed Kalil, Hirab Hillow Osman, and Idris Musa Mumin said that they respectfully disagree with the Sultanate verdict.
“We respectfully disagree with the outcome and seek that the decision shall be set aside,” the letter addressed to the Fai Sultane and signed by the four clerics under the Muntada Ulama Fai,” read the letter in part.
Though, the group did not specifically mention their reasons for the appeal to have the grand verdict of the sultanate rescinded but highly placed sources within the confines of the Sultanate intimated that the major reason that has precipated the renegade is the failure of the sultanate to not keep to their word of backing Ugass Sheikh Mohamed despite their earlier pledge saying they will throw their weight behind him in 2017 when he stepped down for the former ousted governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud.
Ugas Sheikh Mohamed had protested against the decision by the Fai Sultanate to endorse Dr Hassan Khalid Wehliye as the community’s flag bearer for Wajir county gubernatorial seat terming it as shambolic and compromised.
Ugass, who was among the four leading contenders for the governor’s seat alongside Nairobi South Hospital proprietor Dr. Hassan Mohamed Adan and Engineer Bash Gedi Abdille claimed money exchanged hands.
Ugas vowed to defy the endorsement and has commenced his campaigns in Wajir town for the county’s top seat.
Efforts by Frontier Online to get comments from sultan Najib of whether they are in receipt of the letter has hit a dead end since he did not respond to our messages and his phone was unreachable by the time of compiling this report.
